Following images contained here in, are a representation of my ideals and only represents an idea, in hopes to bring my visions to a better understanding for the reader. This is an evolving plan.
21st Century Sustainable City Development will be designing these new cities with Intuitive Intuition, creating cities that are not only structurally engineered, but socially and conceptually designed as well. “True Designed Cities’ segway travel, elec. scooters, cars, etc. You will have several paths to your destination, nature paths, traffic free, free-flowing streets, or electric rail, depending on your distance from the city. Or moving to outside city manufacturing spots, cars are fully autonomous through the whole city on a master plan.
As cities become denser, they become more expensive, exacerbating social inequalities. There must be a supportive infrastructure for public education, healthcare to affordable housing and social services. To retain the workforce necessary to service all parts of a city’s economy, these new cities will need to be serious about funding a social infrastructure, especially when it comes to housing and accessible education.
My first subject city would be any of America’s smaller forgotten cities. Creating a new city in a state, other cities will be able to emulate, which will help us grow a state toward a new future. Its being reported that our cities will grow in population in the next decades. The approach of our cities should be the complete redevelopment of the current cities into a new future orientated eco-design. That will be seen as a blueprint for future city development projects. No more concrete jungles. We must mainstream nature. The biological connection between nature and humans is BIOPHILIC Design, the benefits are increased wellness, heightened productivity and improved creativity.
It’s beneficial for urban areas to be bio-diverse, which plays a crucial role for resilient cities and well-being of it’s citizens. Building living cities in which the air is clean, green space available and wildlife is conserved alone with urban regeneration providing an opportunity to make cities greener, with urban ecology and green infrastructure.
In this new quest for effective living and the new demand on our cities to house larger populations, we now are under the gun to live more effectively in a given area. We must learn to live in a way that produces fewer pollutants in our lives, we must learn to become more effective in the way we live.
In doing so, our cities will be required to operate under new guide lines of efficiency. Our older 1900’s cities and older, we will soon discover, are not adequately designed to do so. Our cities will soon be under new LEED efficiency guide lines. And our 1900’s construction principles are going to be under new scrutinies.
This will be our near future issues we will need to face.
This is why I propose a complete rebuild of our cities, but first I suggest that we start with our lessor more forgotten cities and why I’m thinking of Flint Michigan as a prospect or example of future candidates cities. As we all know, it was originally built as a GM town. My proposal would transform Flint into a highly desirable metropolitan city of advanced 21st century living or any other city like it.
Designing the buildings and their surrounding streets and water areas holistically, bring living up to a higher standard while enhancing the core place, making concepts that set them apart, years ahead of others.
Building a city regeneration that will establish a new benchmark for city design, radial arrangement, braking the orthodox block grid of past street & city design, spacing and designing buildings with broad green spaces and maximizing sun and wind quality for optimal sun and wind currents for electrical generation and fresh air for optimal living of life.
The resulting street design pattern and its proportions provide a human scale public domain enriched by an intelligent mix of activity, which can contribute to a holistic life style for all.
21st century cities will be designed to be highly healthy for our longevity. Being surrounded with greenery, trees, shrubs and perennials enhancing our cities living and nature experiences within a given designed city. Special designed autonomous vehicle lanes will be established for quicker, longer travel lengths within the new city. Connecting to outer area’s in the city, this will cut down the need to park a car. Personally owned cars will be reduced significantly and will only be used by those who do not live in the city itself. For those doing so, will also have the availability of highly advanced public transportation. This can be done easily when designing new cities from the ground up, instead of designing after thoughts, into past design ideas.
Newly designed city buildings will hold highly advanced design principles. Greenery landscape designed within, soft surfaces alone with life style living within. Leisure pocket resting parks. Not only outside but within a given building these new city buildings will no longer be square and be built on a set given city block. This is “A Designed City.”
In the past our cities have been nothing more than a hodgepodge of idea’s by to many different people, who only, built an idea for just a given city block, creating a conglomerate of to many ideas by to many people who have no idea of what a complete city should have been. Nashville is doing this right now, only one after thought, after, after thought that created nothing more than a concrete polluting jungle, only out to make a buck, per given city block.
21st century designed, cities will have bldgs. of high heights at the center and progressively lower height bldgs. each concentric city-designed circle. Buildings will be designed with wide bases on lower levels allowing, multi-coded business offerings in each bldg. These new buildings will be larger in area coverage allowing for fewer bldgs. within a given area, with multi purposes.
These new buildings will not be square in nature, but curved and flowing in design. At the center of each city there will be a featured highest bldg. or architectural structure designed for that city, giving that city its own unique architectural statement. There will be three specially designed.
Water circle lanes will as well, be designed within these new cities. Which will both enhance environmental leisure and will function for travel within the city along with rain water and flood control within a given designed city.
Each city will be designed with concentric circle design principle established by design engineer and futurist Jacque Fresco. Some circles will be purposed for greenery and some for water and some for bldg. purposing. Why circle city design you may ask? For several reasons, 1) its natural, it works with nature. Nothing in nature is square. 2) It is simplistic of design, we all remember the KISS philosophy. 3) It eliminates 90% of stop & traffic lights. It allows traffic to keep moving, allowing for a free & flowing street design, moving at a more consistent & efficient rate.
These new city designs will be highly desirable and highly sought-after by those desiring advanced city living and will draw people from the state’s current older populated cities and other state’s cities. As those older larger cities slowly depopulate they will than in the future, be new candidates for future rebuild projects.
Also within these new cities there will be Super Tree Structures. These structures will serve two purposes. 1) for rain water catch bring in clean water into the cities water system. 2) for cell phone tower transmission, limited.
These future cities that I see are not going to be like any others. Wile other firms and cities around the world are designing their idea’s of future cities. None of them will be like what you will see from 21″ Century Sustainable City Development. Why might you ask? Wile other firms and cities around the world, work on their visions, they are still working on the old foundation
(Also see – youtube – B1M – Road to the future).
L1T = strictly pedestrian walkways, jogging in nature path areas, outside of the city & small elec. vehicles, residential areas, but also blend into city pathways. L2T = Bikes both manual and electric and other types of small electric vehicles, L3T = roadways for faster travel vehicles, trucks, buses, personal cars, autonomous vehicles, etc.
These travel paths will be divided with making, curbs and planting islands, with unidirectional flow.
Cities along the water will have added benefits of water designed city principles for new and advanced city living. Even though this may create a cookie cutter city design that may become boring in time, (you may think) I say it will not. Each city geographic proximity and its different geographic advantages will be designed into another cities personal traits for that city. The same circle design will allow people visiting to easily move around the city with their knowledge of the same city layout. But the differences in the architecture and geographic differences will give that city its own personal geographic traits and interest.
Building new 21st century cities is a completely new frontier. There will be challenges. It’s all new. I’ve been reading of self-healing concretes that are coming. And new ways of construction that will be automated, three D printing of homes is just around the corner and will be included in any new city plans. Economical and affordable. Bring back affordable living in cities.
There will be new ways of doing things, and new ways to build along with code changes, making new ones, rewriting them as we go along, I’m sure. It will be challenging, but fun to be on such a new frontier never done by anyone. The other challenges will be financial in how to fund these new cities.
